Some recent Green developments in and around Bishopston.

The Society's AGM (to be held on Monday, 29th September at 7:30 pm at St Michael's Church Hall on Pigsty Hill) will focus on a theme of three local green spaces and the work of volunteers to transfom them into useful and valuable facilities for the locality. After the short business of the AGM, these three speakers will give the following talks:

  •  Sam Thomson of Friends of Horfield Common will speak about the improvements at the Ardagh
  • Shannon Smith will tell us about the Horfield Organic Community Orchard
  • Nikki Morgan will bring us up to date with The Golden Hill Community Garden - which began as a piece of waterlogged waste ground near the prison walls and is now a successful organic garden growing vegetables, fruit and flowers.

Although it may sometimes seem that the spread of concrete is unstoppable, these green and growing spaces provide inspiring stories of local imagination and initiative, where volunteers have succeeded in making these neighbourhood sites both pleasant and productive ones.

The meeting is open to all, members and non-members. We look forward to seeing you there.
