The Bishopston Society is pleased and proud to announce that Thangam Debbonaire, our local MP for Bristol West, will be the guest speaker at our Open Meeting on April 15th at 7.30 pm.
The venue is the Bristol Pavilion at the Gloucestershire Cricket Ground, off Nevil Road. There is ample parking on the site.
Thangam will be talking about her experience as a new Bristol constituency MP and also as the recently promoted shadow minister for Arts and Culture.
There will be time during the meeting to ask questions about any topics, local or otherwise, that members of the audience might want to raise with her. There will be a charge of £2 for those who are not members of The Bishopston Society, but this will be reimbursed for those who take out membership (£7) to TBS on the evening. Light refreshments will be provided at the end of the meeting.
Thangam’s promotion to Jeremy Corbyn’s front bench has happened since she agreed to talk to the Bishopston Society, back in September 2015. It will be interesting, and indeed intriguing, to hear about how she has responded to this rapid progression in her political career and how working within a newly structured, distinctly left of centre Labour Party might have implications for Bristol and indeed for Bishopston.
