Following the apparent collapse of negotiations between Dwane Sports Limited (for Bristol Rovers) and UWE, it seems that the proposed new Rovers stadium at UWE is not to be. Wael Al-Qadi and Stephen Hamer have announced that instead the Memorial Stadium is to be rebuilt/revamped as Rovers’ home.
This news is broadly welcomed in that spectator sport might now continue at the Mem. However, all the original issues that caused concern are now having to be raised once more: planning, stadium capacity, non-sport revenue streams for the club, match day traffic, parking, etc.
Friends of the Memorial Ground (FOMG) have held a committee meeting, and have issued an initial response as a blog posting (also sent as a message/letter to Wael Al-Qadi and Bristol Rovers) which can be seen here
