There will be a talk on the history of Horfield Quaker Meeting House and its immediate environs given on Saturday 3rd March, 7.30pm. at the Meeting House (300 Gloucester Road BS7 8PD). It is in aid of redeveloping the back garden and the suggested donation is £5. Lorna Thompson, who is giving this talk, is appealing for any information that people may have about the history of the meeting house. Plans dating from 1909 show a basement with four rooms. Does anyone know who originally lived in these? Today there is a 'small stream' running into the basement and this collects in a sump which has to be constantly pumped out and up to the storm drain. Neither the Environment Agency or the water authorities have been able to explain the source of this water.  Lorna would be very interested to hear from anyone on the west side of the Gloucester Road who suffers from a similar problem or who can shed any light on this situation.
