This survey, published just over a year and a half ago, shows many people would be willing to walk and cycle more if these alternative modes of travel were made safer with improved physical road conditions such as separate cycle lanes and better maintained pavements.
In the case of bus transport, cheaper fares was an important motivating factor for their more frequent use. As is usuallly the case, government at both national and local level is lagging behind the public's demand for action to be taken on improving and developing alternatives to car transport.
