1. BCR Graffiti Removal

BCR Street Scene volunteers continue to do checks of the main Gloucester Road, top of Cheltenham Road, bottom of Cromwell Road (‘The Arches’) and Station Road areas every few days.

We report graffiti tags to BWC for cleaning / overpainting where it is BCC property, utility boxes, and where we have a valid BWC indemnity form. We report this via the online reporting form on the front of the Bristol City Council homepage on the internet.

We are also out each weekend painting and cleaning tags ourselves. If you see a new graffiti tag, please let us know and if you can, report it to BCC online. We would also be very grateful for volunteers to join us for weekend cleaning/painting, even if it is only occasionally. Please let us know if you can help. All equipment (paint, rollers, cleaning materials) and training provided.

2. New BCC Graffiti Action Group

The second meeting of the Bristol Clean Streets Forum was held at City Hall on 25 September, with a good number of interested parties and community groups. One of the actions from this Forum was to set up a specific Graffiti Action Group, and this met on 07 November, chaired by Kurt James (Bristol Cleaner Streets) and with Cllr Kye Dudd (Cabinet Member with responsibility for Energy, Waste and Regulatory Services) attending and taking a keen personal interest in the work of the group. Again, it was a useful and hopefully productive meeting with some good points of agreement and clear action points.

One of the actions with BCC is to see how they can support local community groups such as ours and to put some more helpful advice on the webpage about how home/business owners can clean up graffiti themselves. The next meeting of the BCC Graffiti Action Group is due in January 2019, but the exact date is still to be confirmed.

3. Bristol Waste Company Christmas & 2019 waste collection schedules are out for download again.

Do think about giving a copy to your student neighbours

4. Leaf Collection Grove Road, Redland

Grove Park residents, for the second year running, had an ‘action hour’ to tackle the accumulation of leaves from the street trees and the lime avenue on Lovers Walk/ Redland Grove Green space. The road slopes down to the cul-de-sac and the leaves block the gullies, causing local flooding; also because there is a retaining wall along one side of the road, and the on-street parking is usually occupied, the street-sweeping machine does not deal adequately with the leaves.

Volunteers were blessed with good weather and after an hour’s hard work by 9 adults and 2 children, 42 bags of leaves were ready for collection by Bristol Waste the next working day.

If you and your neighbours want to organise a similar “action hour” you can get the clear bags from Bristol Waste and arrange for the bags to be collected.

5. Great British High Street Competition

Sadly the Gloucester Road Independent traders group did not win, but well done for making it into the last 13
