Perhaps not on the immediate doorstep of Bishopston, but arguably the nearest large scale area of landscape to North Bristol, the Lower Severn Vale Levels are now being restored by a major conservation project - 'A Forgotten Landscape'.
These levels of low-lying floodplain along the shore of the Severn Estuary, make a very special place. The landscape boasts big skies; a sense of light and vast open space with two colossal white bridges spanning the silt-laden tides of the Severn Estuary.
