Refurbishment of the existing Grade II listed Allen House Building, including the demolition and re-building of three single storey elements to provide a total of 44 new residential apartments (Major application).

We have considered this application in some detail and consider that it is a marked improvement on the previous permission. We like the return to the original 1847 footprint and the proposal for a lighter and more modern approach within the (closed) courtyards. We consider that it is crucial that the reconstruction of the external elevations is a complete facsimile of the original. We notice that careful details have been submitted to show how this will be achieved. We would ask that the planning and conservation officers ensure that sample panels of the stonework are approved prior to the start of the work to ensure that a correct match has been achieved in practice.
