The 7 page document submitted by Sustrans in response to the consultation on the West of England JLTP4 is very well considered and recommended reading for anyone concerned about prioritising other forms of transport over private cars.
Its conclusion states: 'Unfortunately we think the draft is more of a strategy than a plan. There is too much focus in the document on high-value, high-risk transport interventions that may not materialise, or fail to deliver the expected benefits. We think there needs to be a much greater emphasis on overcoming the challenges of too many local journeys made by car with measures designed to make the most efficient use of our existing highway capacity. We would also like to see a clear delivery plan set out for the next 5 years that is aimed at tackling short journeys by car and creating better places for people to live and work in.'
