This section provides a commentary on planning applications and developments and the work we do in this area. From June 2018 it relies on links to our new planning portal for details of specific applications, and complements this by offering a broader thematic treatment. Also from June 2018, this section covers individual planning applications and wider developments, which were previously presented in separate sections.

Alcohol License A public consultation meeting will be held between 1 – 8pm on Monday 25th April at the Memorial Ground.  J D Wetherspoon will be presenting their revised proposals for 349 Gloucester Road in advance of submitting their further (3rd) planning application.

planningapplications The Bishopston Society has given this application careful consideration and is concerned about the proposal for an external balcony at first floor level which would overlook the rear garden of 133 Ashley Down Road alongside.

planningapplications The Bishopston Society is very concerned about this conversion proposal into three flats. The internal arrangements are not satisfactory in terms of access, fire escape, daylighting and do not comply with Building Regulations. We consider that this application is overdevelopment and totally inappropriate. We recommend refusal.

Proposal: New two storey extension to side of existing house and new first floor extension over part of existing house.

The Bishopston Society are very concerned about the design quality of this application and the adverse effect on neighbouring properties and the character of the local area.

Proposal: Alteration to external facade to increase glazed area and internal refurbishment to provide food outlet with seating, creation of additional parking.

The Bishopston Society is concerned about the loss of amenity if the planting and trees to the northern boundary are removed to increase car parking.

This application is for a substantial 2 storey rear extension. The Bishopston Society understand the thinking behind the decision to 'split' the extension visually into two halves in order to reduce its visual impact.

After submissions from TBS (see here) and also from many local residents objecting to this application, the BCC planning department has reached the decision to refuse it. The reasons for their refusal can be seen below.

plnning approvedIf the new Housing and Planning Bill becomes law, the public's right to comment on local Planning Applications may be curtailed and developers may well be enabled to bypass local councils when putting forward planning applications.
